Animism is a particular sensibility and way of relating to various beings in the world. Animism involves attributing sentience to other beings—humans, animals, plants—as well as to inanimate objects and the environment. Through this way of seeing, animism engages with that which exists outside of our bodies as living, breathing and spirit-ing.
Within the animist framework, there is life, there is presence, there is narrative within all things. And with this, there is the possibility for interaction, and perhaps even dialogue, that transcends commonly held views on relationality. If all things carry sentience, then all relations hold a sense of urgency and poignancy. Every moment is animated.
